Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr. submits letter of resignation, says spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner
CHICAGO -- A spokesman for House Speaker John Boehner said Wednesday he has received letter of resignation from Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. Boehner's spokesman Michael Steel confirmed his office had received a letter of resignation from Jackson but did not comment further. Jackson, 47, disappeared in June, and it was later revealed that he was being treated at the Mayo Clinic for bipolar disorder and gastrointestinal issues. The American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin submitted letters Thursday opposing applications by sheriffs departments in Milwaukee and Waukesha counties to partner with federal authorities on immigration enforcement at the county jails.The two departments have sought to participate with the Office of Immigration and Custom Enforcement on the 287 (g) program's jail model initiative.Under the jail model, deputized officers would have the authority to issue "immigration detainers" on inmates who could be subject to removal.Before he resigned, then-Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Why has Louisville slipped in comparison to other nearby major cities? I would like to suggest one reason is the citizens. I have observed that people here are too busy to have any civic expectations. Let me provide some examples. How about construction projects that drag on forever — example: Dixie Highway. What about vehicular speeding through neighborhoods? There was recently a radar sign in my neighborhood that didn't survive more than 36 hours before it was clobbered by a speeder.
