Tyler Howell Published 12:58 PM EST Nov 10, 2018 The Geneseo Blue Devils (18-3-1) boys soccer team move on to the state title match Sunday after easily defeating Section IX’s SS Seward 5-1 Saturday morning at Marlboro High School near Poughkeepsie. Blue Devils’ senior and leading scorer Jack Gagnier scored 3 goals to lead the team, including the first score of the game in the 18th minute. Six minutes later, Blue Devils’ Danny Kelly made it 2-0 off an assist by Nick Hammond. Geneseo’s goalkeeper Matt Kreher let in just one goal the entire match when SS Seward’s Matt Stam scored with six minutes left in the first half. Gagnier helped put the game away early in the second half with two more goals, to give him a hat trick. Gagnier has led Geneseo in scoring all season and will be looking to play college soccer next year. “I think our team played outstanding,” Geneseo head coach Chris Masters said. “We have to stay hungry though and not be satisfied.” “We didn’t come here for second place.” Masters continued. The Geneseo Blue Devils will face the winner of Lansing vs Madrid-Waddington in the Class C state championship match at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at Middletown High School.
